As Medical Director at Wilmer Health, Andrew provides senior clinical leadership, overseeing medical governance, quality standards, and the safe delivery of all visa medical certification services — ensuring every certificate is prepared appropriately for official consulate use.
Wilmer Health was founded in 2023 after seeing how confusing and frustrating visa medical paperwork can be for applicants. Many people were being sent back and forth between GP surgeries, private clinics, translators, and legalisation services — often under tight deadlines and with little clear guidance on what was actually required. We started Wilmer Health to do things differently.
From the beginning, we focused on visa medical certificates, with particular expertise in Spanish visa applications. Over time, as we worked with more applicants, it became clear that medical certificates were only part of the problem. People also needed Spanish sworn translations, apostilles, and reassurance that everything had been prepared correctly for consulate submission.
So we built a service that brings everything together.
Today, Wilmer Health provides an end-to-end visa document service. Medical certificates are reviewed and issued by globally recognised doctors, sworn translations are completed through our network of accredited Spanish sworn translators, and apostille and legalisation services are handled quickly and efficiently — all under one coordinated process.
We’ve now supported over 5,000 visa applicants including students, retirees, digital nomads, professionals, and families, based across the UK, the USA, and worldwide. What makes Wilmer Health different is not just speed, but clarity — knowing exactly what consulates expect, and helping applicants get it right the first time.
If you’re unsure about anything at all, just reach to us at hello@wilmerhealth.com — our team is always happy to help and talk things through.

Dr Andrew Smith MBChB BSc (Hons) MRCGP, Medical Director at Wilmer Health
Wilmer Health is a doctor-led visa medical certification service specialising in Spanish visa applications, providing the full set of documents typically required — from medical certificates to sworn translations and apostilles — through one coordinated, end-to-end process.
At the heart of our service is a network of doctors registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and other relevant national medical regulators, all of whom have extensive experience issuing medical certificates specifically for visa and immigration applications.
Alongside our medical team, we work with accredited Spanish sworn translators (traductores jurados) who are officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as experienced apostille and legalisation specialists.
This means applicants don’t need to coordinate multiple providers or guess what comes next — everything is handled in one place.
Our team is based across the UK, the USA, and Europe, supporting applicants worldwide. We have particular experience with Spanish non-lucrative, student, digital nomad, family reunification, and other long-stay visas, and between us we bring decades of combined experience in visa documentation and consulate requirements.
Wilmer Health works with doctors registered with recognised national medical regulators, including the General Medical Council (UK), and sworn translators officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Medical certificates and sworn translations arranged through Wilmer Health include the issuing doctor’s or sworn translator’s professional registration details. This allows credentials to be independently verified with the relevant medical regulator or, for sworn translations, with the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs where required.
Professional registration details and verification information can be provided on request.
At Wilmer Health, we help people get the visa medical certificates and documents they need, without having to juggle multiple providers or figure things out alone.
Most of the people we work with are applying for Spanish visas — whether that’s a non-lucrative visa, a student visa, a digital nomad visa, or a family or long-stay application — providing consulate-accepted Spanish visa medical certificates. Over time, we’ve learned exactly what consulates look for, where applications commonly go wrong, and how to prepare documents in a way that avoids delays.
In one place, we arrange:
Everything is done online, so there’s no need to book GP or primary care physician (PCP) appointments, travel to clinics, or coordinate different companies yourself. Once you submit your details, our team takes care of the rest and keeps everything moving in the right order.
While we are best known for Spanish visa applications, we also issue visa medical certificates and supporting documentation for a range of countries worldwide through the same doctor-led process.
Applying for a visa can feel daunting, especially when time is tight and the paperwork matters. Over the years, applicants worldwide have trusted Wilmer Health to help them prepare their visa medical certificates and supporting documents. Here’s what they’ve shared about their experience.
“I used Wilmer Health to arrange my Spanish visa medical certificate, along with the translation and apostille, and also had the same done for my ACRO police certificate. What I really liked was that everything was handled together — the whole process felt streamlined and straightforward.
The online application only took about five minutes, and I was kept updated by email and text throughout. From start to finish, everything was completed in around a week.
I was genuinely impressed by how quick and reliable the service was. It felt professional and legitimate, especially compared to some of the less secure options I came across. The team were also very approachable, which made the whole experience much easier. I would definitely recommend Wilmer Health.”
“I used Wilmer Health for my Spanish visa medical certificate and my ACRO certificate, including apostille and sworn translation.
I sent them my original ACRO certificate, and they arranged the sworn translation and apostille before sending everything back to me. The whole process was really easy and far more time-efficient than trying to organise everything separately.
Having all the documents handled in one place made the entire process much simpler. I also had no issues at the visa application centre. I’d highly recommend Wilmer Health to anyone needing their visa paperwork done all in one place.”
Wilmer Health began in 2023 with a simple aim: to make visa medical certificates easier to arrange, without unnecessary delays, confusion, or back-and-forth.
What started as a small, focused service has grown into a trusted, end-to-end provider supporting visa applicants worldwide, helping people prepare medical certificates and supporting documents for some of life’s most important moves.
Below is a snapshot of how Wilmer Health has grown over time.
Wilmer Health was created to make visa medical certificates easier to arrange, without long waits, unnecessary appointments, or confusion about requirements. Initially focused on UK applicants, the service quickly became popular with students and retirees applying for Spanish long-stay visas, including non-lucrative and student visas.
As demand grew, Wilmer Health expanded beyond Spain to support visa medical certificates for additional countries. Services were introduced for France (including OFII and Fit-to-Work certificates), Greece (Type D visas), Thailand, and South Africa — allowing applicants to arrange compliant medical documentation for a wider range of visa routes.
Wilmer Health expanded its team to include Spanish sworn translators officially recognised by the Spanish government, along with experienced apostille and legalisation specialists. This marked a key step in offering a fully joined-up service for Spanish visa applicants, covering medical certificates, sworn translations, and legalisation within a single, coordinated process.
Priority apostille and legalisation services for Spanish visas were introduced through direct access to the UK FCDO counter in Milton Keynes. This allowed Wilmer Health to complete medical certificate and apostille processing — including delivery — within a matter of days, helping applicants working to tight consulate timelines.
Wilmer Health expanded its medical team and services into the United States, supporting applicants across the country with Spanish visa medical certificates prepared for consulate use. This expansion allowed Wilmer Health to support both UK- and US-based applicants through the same structured, doctor-led process.
Wilmer Health launched a new digital platform designed to make the application process even easier for applicants worldwide. The platform includes improved mobile usability, streamlined identity verification, simpler uploads, and a more intuitive application form. All systems are designed to operate in line with UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and HIPAA standards.
Wilmer Health was built specifically for people applying for visas. For many applicants, arranging a visa medical certificate can feel surprisingly complicated. GPs may not offer the service, primary care physicians may be hard to find, clinics may be unfamiliar with visa wording, and translations or apostilles often need to be organised separately. It’s easy to feel like you’re piecing things together as you go.
Our aim was to change that.
Instead of sending people in different directions, we bring the key parts of the process together. Doctors, sworn translators, and document specialists work alongside each other, following a clear, shared process — so applicants don’t have to coordinate everything themselves.
Wilmer Health operates under clear clinical accountability, with medical governance led by our Medical Director and defined internal review processes for all issued documentation.
Our Medical Director, Dr Andrew Smith MBChB BSc (Hons) MRCGP, is registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and is responsible for maintaining clinical standards, reviewing certificate formats, and ensuring medical documentation is prepared appropriately for official visa use. For more information on how we maintain our clinical and ethical standards, please see our Code of Practice.
Wilmer Health works exclusively with doctors who are registered with the GMC (UK) or the relevant national medical regulator in their practising jurisdiction. Registration details are available on request.
Applicant data is handled securely in line with UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and HIPAA-compliant systems, supporting applicants in both the UK, the United States, and worldwide. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.
Wilmer Health does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, or ongoing clinical care. Our role is limited to preparing medical certification and supporting documentation for official visa and consulate use, based on applicant-provided information and doctor-led review.
